Over the last week I've been working on recreating the environment for the cliff set. I've had to relearn how MASH networks work, as well as how to import an .ass file as an AiStandin. I also recorded some live action reference for act 1 to improve the animation.
I brought all the cameras that use this environment into the scene so I'd know where to place the planes for later matte paintings, as well as all the geo. I placed the moon and cliff first so I knew where everything was to place everything else. Then I moved onto the trees, since they make up most of the compositions. I placed larger bushes and rocks by hand and then used a MASH network to place shrubs.
Next I'm going to add more trees, grass, and more bushes with MASH networks. Then I'll show it to my team members for feedback and make adjustments. I've got a few more weeks to work on this, and then I'll be getting back to animating once the rig has been redone and the face can be animated.
